Technology, media and telecoms
Green IT is a priority for organisations nationwide, especially reducing carbon footprint through the promotion of e-documents and remote working. Other developments having a significant impact on business include cloud computing, virtualisation, the growth of analytic tools, machine-to-machine development and the increased stringency of data storage requirements.
Elsewhere, consumers susceptible to internet advertising continue to fuel the growth of the mobile apps industry. These same consumers do their banking online, contribute to social networking’s blurring of personal and professional communication and eagerly await the conversion from analogue to digital – an enhanced visual experience that they will access on demand.
Implications for the executive recruitment market
With IT budgets perpetually under threat, it’s not uncommon for executives in this space to have been out of work for anything up to a year. Businesses are almost exclusively recruiting candidates with specific sector experience but this reluctance to consider professionals from other sectors has not discouraged candidates from moving jobs. The spectres of ‘last in, first out’ and longer interview processes seem to have been chased away by the rumour of improving salaries.
